Email to SMS

Curtin's Telecommunications office offers a service which allows staff to deliver SMS messages to mobile phones - just by sending email!

  • Send a message to someone who is in a meeting - don't interrupt with a phone call.
  • Send a text message to a number of mobiles simultaneously.
  • ICT staff - program your system software to send you a text message when faults occur.
  • Save money on calls. Voice calls take longer and cost more.

Email2SMS User Guide

Staff registered for the service can use email to send messages direct to any mobile in Australia and, in most cases, while the phone is being used overseas as well.

Messages of up to 160 characters can be sent for 11 cents. Messages take about 30-40 seconds to arrive - and the sender receives an email message confirming that the SMS has been sent. The recipient can even reply, sending an SMS which will arrive as email in the original sender's inbox.

Email2SMS – the Procedure

Sending a message:

  • Step 1 - In the ‘To …’ field in your email message, type in the mobile number followed by @messagenet.com.au.
  • Step 2 - Insert a subject, then type your message as you would any email.
  • Step 3 - Send the message

You can even reply to the message from your mobile and it will be delivered as an email message to the sender. Refer to your mobile user guide for instructions.
