Daylight saving overview
Daylight Savings is being removed from Western Australia, and thus from Curtin computers, and this may cause some appointments to be out by an hour.
What is going to happen, and when
Thursday 8 October 10am - Friday 16 October 5pm
- The auto accept function for resource and meeting room bookings will be turned off.
Manually Manage the Meeting Rooms in your Local area (see below). It is necessary to turn off the auto accept function to avoid meeting rooms rejecting meeting requests as they change during the system an client patching (Monday 12 October).
Monday 12 October 5:30pm - 7:30pm
- Outage to Curtin Staff email while all Exchange servers are patched and rebooted.
Please turn off your PC’s before you go home this evening.During this time, access to your mailbox will not be available (via all methods, including Outlook, web access, IMAP clients, and mobile devices such as PDA).
Tuesday 13 October (or the next time you log in)
- All computer workstations will be patched.
A software tool will be deployed to end-users which will run automatically on login (or reboot) to update your calendar.
What can you do to ease this transition
Manually Manage the Meeting Rooms in your Local area.
- Print off the meeting room calendar, stick it to the door and keep a manual track of meeting room appointments until Friday 16 October.
Take extra care not to double book meeting rooms and resources
- Once the auto update facility is turned off (during 8-16 October 2009) it will be possible for duplicate bookings to exist.
This is necessary to allow for the correction of meeting times during the daylight saving transition.
Put the start time into the “Subject” field
- For all current and new meeting requests please enter the meeting start time into the “Subject” field. Shortly, a software patch will be installed, but until then, and for a short while later, we strongly recommend that you check the start times for all appointments by referring to the “Subject” field. If you do find an appointment with the incorrect start time you should manually adjust it.

Print your calendar
- We strongly recommend that you carefully review all of your appointments for the following months and make a written note of the correct start times for each meeting. This can be easily achieved by printing off your calendar. Select the month view within Microsoft Outlook and print off your October and November meeting bookings. If you do find an appointment with the incorrect start time you should manually adjust it.
Appointments on or after October 25, 2009
Note: the following suggestions apply to meetings that occur on or after October 25, including recurring appointments.
- Please consider that all unconfirmed calendar appointments after October 25 could be incorrect. If you are unsure of the starting time please confirm with the meeting organiser.
- Issues may arise during the former DST period that could cause double bookings of meetings and other confusion. Please be patient as we work through these issues.
Further Information
Generic Mailboxes
- All generic mailboxes should be checked and calendar entries verified after CITS has installed the patch.
Public Folders
- Calendars which are based in Public Folders and non primary calendars will not be corrected by the software patch. These appointments will have to be adjusted manually. Please contact your local IT for more information.
Daylight Saving Patches (for home)
- Your work machine(s) should be patched automatically, but for machines away from campus (eg home), please download and run the appropriate patch:
For Windows XP - requires XP Service Pack 2 or 3 to have been installed already
For Vista - requires Vista, Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 to have been installed already
